Yesterday, the death penalty for Shinji Aoba, the man responsible for the Kyoto Animation arson murder case, was confirmed.
After learning about the circumstances that led defendant Shinji Aoba to commit the incident, the following concerns emerged in my mind.
I would like to think about what I can do from now on to prevent the loss of valuable assets in the future.
《Contents of the judgment》
In the trial that began around 10:30 a.m. on January 25, 2024, defendant Shinji Aoba (45 years old) was sentenced to the death penalty.
《Case summary》
At around 10:30 a.m. on July 18, 2019, defendant Shinji Aoba (41 years old at the time) set fire to KyoAni’s Daiichi Studio by dousing it in a bucket of gasoline.
The studio was completely destroyed by the fire, and 36 of the 69 people in the studio were killed and 33 were seriously injured.
Defendant Shinji Aoba also suffered third-degree burns over 93% of his body, and although his predicted mortality rate was 97.45%, he survived.
《Notable points in the history leading up to the crime》
From 2011 to 2018, defendant Shinji Aoba repeatedly posted about his worries and delusions on an anonymous bulletin board site.
During this time, he comes into contact with a person who claims to be a popular female creator belonging to Kyoto Animation Studio.
This person is different from the popular female creator.
Defendant Shinji Aoba believed that this other person was the popular female creator and continued to convey his feelings for her, and she listened to this other person’s worries and responded by sending her novels that she had written.
Defendant Shinji Aoba heard what this other person said and believed that she could marry him.
Defendant Shinji Aoba believed that he had been betrayed by a popular female creator, so he set fire to Kyoto Animation Studio, where she worked.

Operation by an impersonator
《Author’s concerns》
This incident was ultimately caused by manipulation by an impersonator.
It is unclear whether this person planned this incident.
However, there is a possibility that crimes imitating this incident will occur in the future.
In other words, a person who plans to fulfill his or her own desire to attack will involve a mentally and physically weak other person in order to take over his or her attack.
There is a great possibility that such a misdeed will occur.
《Author’s wish》
Currently, in network communities where identity is not verified, impersonation and anonymous attacks can occur at any time.
The scary thing about impersonation is that even though the person is aware of the dangers of network communities and does not intentionally take advantage of them, the person being impersonated can cause harm to the person.
Unbeknownst to the person who is not using the service, the impersonator causes great harm to the person by inducing a relationship that the person does not want.
Those who do not use the service do not know the cause of their damage and continue to suffer one-sided damage, and some victims are even driven to suicide.
Anonymous assault can be compared to unilaterally throwing rocks at someone while wearing a mask.
Depending on the opponent, you may be killed by a bad hit.
What follows is the author’s wish.
All network communities require identity verification before use.
Individuals are responsible for their own communications.
If this cannot be achieved, the content of network communities that have not been verified will not be trusted.
The person or person concerned can minimize the damage by quickly uncovering the perpetrator or anonymous person.
The use of network communities in which individuals have been established also leads to the realization of direct democracy.
Each of us is a hero.
We are not invisible people.
Sadly, Shinji Aoba became visible by becoming a defendant.
Sadly, he caused the incident because he was an invisible person.
Sadly, there are still many invisible people who cause incidents.
It is better for us to be able to see each other.
It’s not only safe, but also leads to happiness.
We want a world where all people living on this earth are valued.
Are you worried about the current network community?
Have you ever felt like you’re an invisible person?
How many dangerous invisible people do you think there are?
